History of Birla Mandir in Kolkata
The first foundation stone for the construction of the Birla Mandir in Kolkata was laid in 1970. This temple was built by India’s richest and largest industrialist family ‘Birla Family’. All the Birla temples in India have been build by the ‘Birla family’.
It took a long time about 26 years to complete the construction of this temple. This temple and the sanctum sanctorum built in this temple were inaugurated by Dr. Karan Singh on February 21, 1996. while the work of consecration of idols in this temple was done by Swami Chidanand Maharaj.

The architecture of Birla Mandir in Kolkata
This very beautiful structure of Birla Mandir in Kolkata was designed by architect Nomi Bose. The length of this temple is 160feet, it is built in an area of about 2,940 square meters. The structure of this temple has been considered one of the most spectacular structures of the 20th century. Two styles have been mixed in the structure style of this temple. 1. Modern Style 2. Contemporary Style.
This temple is similar to the construction of the famous Lingaraja Temple and Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Bhubaneswar. The temple is built like three corn-cob-shaped towers. Genuine white marble and cream-colored sandstone have been used for the construction of this Mandir which has been exquisitely carved by highly skilled craftsmen. The inner part of the Birla Mandir complex is made of white marble and the outer part of sandstone.

The Complex Rajasthani architecture has also been incorporated into the construction structure of the temple.
